The Entryware™ software platform is a powerful suite of tools for conducting surveys at the Point-of-Experience using both:
· Handheld computers, including PDA’s or Smartphones running either the Palm™ operating system (Palm OS®) or Windows® Mobile Operating System*; and
· Windows-based computers running Windows® 98 or higher — including laptops, Tablet, Ultra-mobile PC’s and touch-screen kiosks.
Entryware differs from other data collection tools such as electronic forms and database software because it allows you to focus on creating the content and business logic of a questionnaire without having to manage your own user interface or worry about database design. Entryware includes powerful engines for dynamically managing both of these important elements of a data collection application.
The Entryware Mobile software that runs on each data collection device automatically detects the size of the screen it is running on, and formats questions accordingly. This means that you can target a variety of different form factors from the same authoring tool—Entryware Designer—with little or no customization required. If you find that Entryware’s built-in display does not suit your needs, it is possible to customize the look-and-feel for a questionnaire to suit each different screen size. For example, you could use multiple columns for a long category list on a Tablet PC and only one column on a handheld computer.
Entryware’s built-in database management is designed to handle the rigorous requirements of modern survey research. Entryware supports virtually unlimited data records and, depending on the Edition you purchase, very large questionnaires — e.g. Enterprise Edition allows you to create questionnaires with thousands of questions.
Entryware system components work together to provide a solution flexible enough to meet almost any deployment need. Whether data is collected in one office or around the world, with one handheld or 20,000, at locations with wireless coverage or without any telecommunications capability at all, the Entryware system can be configured to meet your needs. Visit our Product Configuration page for a summary of possible configurations and a description of each system component.
This User Guide focuses on the following components of the Entryware Platform:
Designed for PC’s running Windows 98 or higher, Entryware Designer lets you:
· Design and modify data collection instruments
· Transfer the data collection instrument by cradle or modem to handheld computers running the Techneos Entryware Mobile software, or by disk or email to PCs running Entryware Dataport™ software
· Retrieve and consolidate response data collected using Entryware Mobile software
· View collected data and generate top-line reports
· Export data to third party analysis or reporting software, such as SPSS® Base, SPSS Dimensions, Remark Office OMR®, Microsoft® Excel and Microsoft Access.
· Field level-data collection for mobile devices and other point-of-experience computers:
· Entryware Mobile for Handhelds works on Palm OS or Windows Mobile* PDA’s and Smartphones.
· Entryware Mobile for Windows works on any computer running Windows 98 or higher, including PC’s, laptops, Tablet PC’s, Ultra-Mobile PC’s and touch-screen kiosks.
· Dynamically formats questions and responses to fit on the screen of each mobile device.
· Performs “skip” patterns (also known as branching or routing logic) and other sophisticated business logic such as: filtering, randomizing or rotating response lists; piping answers into the text of subsequent questions; and validating data at the point of entry (supported features vary by Entryware edition).
· Can be optimized to work in an interview or self-completion setting.
· Automatically record information such as respondent number, time and date.
Entryware Server provides a fully scalable communications and data management platform to:
· Manage Entryware Mobile users via a central web console.
· Publish new questionnaires and modified questionnaires from Entryware Designer for deployment to any number of field users in any number of locations.
· Manage sample quotas.
· View top-line reports of collected data.
· Export data to, and/or integrate with, other enterprise software systems (including SPSS Dimensions).
*NOTE: The StyleTap Platform emulator must be installed on Windows Mobile computers in order to run Entryware Mobile for Handhelds. Not all versions of Windows Mobile are supported.
